The Hartland Garden Club - Building Community, One Garden at a Time!
The Hartland Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, founded in 1999 by a small group of enthusiastic, local gardeners. Our first project was the planting at the new public library in 2002. We planted oak, apple and beech trees, evergreen and flowering shrubs. Later a memorial garden and stone bench were added and many daffodil bulbs. Plantings at Damon Hall followed. New rhododendron, magnolia and lilacs were introduced to the Hartland Historical Society property.
The club’s Hartland-focused mission is threefold: Beautification, Education and Sustainability. Members Annual Dues are only $10 and all donations and proceeds go to support town beautification, and our educational events which seek to bring awareness to the community of the pleasures and many benefits gardens hold for us, and for our planet.
A Community of Gardeners and Garden-Lovers of ALL Skill Levels
In pursuit of our educational goals, we hold regularly scheduled presentations by local and regional horticultural experts each February, March and April and occasionally throughout the year. Occasionally a group of members and other interested folks from the community will plan a field trip to annual flower and garden shows in New England.
We welcome your green (or brown) thumbs, your community spirit and your ideas!

The Hartland Community Garden (located by the library) has several plots available for the season. Plot fees are $20 for a 20’ x 4’ plot and $10 for a raised bed that is approximately 4’ x 3’. Fees go towards purchasing compost each year and replacing tools. Inexperienced gardeners are welcome, we are happy to help you learn and can provide instruction and resources.
We ask that organic gardening practices be used in your plots, that you keep your plots weed free and help maintain the paths throughout the garden. Most folks use their plots to grow vegetables, but flowers are welcome too. The garden is now under the auspices of the Hartland Garden Club and is co-stewarded by Prue Merton and Dan Talbot. We plan to use at least one plot for a pollinator garden planted with natives.
The garden has a tool shed well-stocked with gardening tools, wheelbarrows and hoses (there is a water system to the garden with several faucets among the beds).
